On Tuesday, October 6, SEIU Healthcare organized a rally outside of Michael Garron Hospital to stand in solidarity against racism. Over the past several months, there have been several hateful appalling acts of discrimination at the hospital’s construction site. The union, along with over 50 members marched to demand that Michael Garron Hospital and EllisDon take immediate action to avoid any future incidents. The health and safety of our members is always our priority, and currently our members do not feel protected at the hospital. SEIU Healthcare will continue to fight for racial justice and equality and help our members feel safe once again.

Our Executive Vice President Mina Amrith, Nursing Division President Jackie Walker, and Social Justice and Capacity Builder Ainsworth Spence spoke to the media on Tuesday. Please click here to see the news footage.

We will not stop until those who are responsible are brought to justice. Our members need meaningful actions now and should not be afraid to be around their workplace when they are working tirelessly during this pandemic. Thank you to all those who were able to attend yesterday’s rally. We will continue to keep you updated.
