On Tuesday, June 16, 2020, the members at North York General Hospital organized a very successful rally to demand Pandemic Pay for all healthcare workers. Although the government added more healthcare professionals to the Pandemic Pay list, many workers in the health system were still left out.

Hospital employees were joined by their families, friends, and the public as they stretched out all over Leslie Street. The main hospital entrance was filled with homemade signs showing solidarity and support. Those who are already receiving Pandemic Pay joined their colleagues in chanting, “PPE! Pandemic Pay Equality”. It is significant that the government understands that it takes everyone in the health system to fight COVID-19 and no one should be forgotten.

SEIU Healthcare was proud to stand with the sisters and brothers at North York General Hospital. Without healthcare workers, Ontario would not be able to get through this pandemic. Their hard work and dedication must be recognized and we will not stop advocating until Pandemic Pay is provided for all healthcare workers.
