Every year on March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day.

This year, the theme is #FeministRecovery. Around this time last year, we went into our first lockdown – no one could predict how much COVID-19 could alter our everyday lives.

The pandemic has highlighted how the significant gaps in our society affect those who were already marginalized. Although women have come so far, COVID-19 has pushed back some of the progress that has been made over the years. More women are being laid off, forced to take time off work to care for their loved ones, and on top of that domestic violence is on the rise.

On March 8 and 9, Canada Response and Recovery Summit will be taking place. The Canadian government will be building an action plan to ensure women recover from the pandemic with economic security and create innovative ways to reconstruct a healthier future for all.
