SEIU Healthcare is aware that many of our Community Care and Home Care members continue to be impacted by O. Reg. 177/20: CONGREGATE CARE SETTINGS (prohibiting healthcare workers from working in multiple congregate care settings).
While this regulation has been updated to allow fully vaccinated healthcare workers in the long-term care sector to work with multiple employers, there is still a discrepancy regarding home care workers.
We have written to the Ministry of Health to urge them to clarify the confusion around this regulation.
You can read the letter we sent by clicking here.
Furthermore, we expressed that as a matter of public policy, SEIU Healthcare believes that workers should be guaranteed access to full-time work at fair, living wages. Experts have stated that full-time jobs help limit the spread of viruses, whether they be during a pandemic like COVID-19 or the common flu every winter.
Returning to a system that is dominated by part-time jobs at low wages is not only unfair but bad public health. As such, we have recommended to the government that they introduce a universal minimum wage of least $25 for all low wage workers, like PSWs.
SEIU Healthcare will continue to keep you updated about Regulation 177/20. We will also keep fighting for access to full-time jobs with good wages.
