On May 4, 1886 during a strike for the eight hour work day in Chicago, four demonstrators were killed by police. Every May 1 we celebrate International Worker’s Day also known as May Day to commemorate those who marched during the strike. With their endless efforts they help establish the five day work week, occupational health and safety legislation, old age security, and basic employment standards.
With technological advancements, pay equity, excessive workloads, violence in the workplace, unpredictable political climate, and other ongoing labour issues, the fight for workers continues! Join SEIU Healthcare as we celebrate our progress and continue to advocate for better working conditions!
