Black History Month Celebration 2020

February 17, 2020 Jessica Lagman

On Saturday, February 1, 2020, SEIU Healthcare held its biggest Black History Month celebration to date with more than 300 members in attendances at the Eglinton West Gallery in Toronto.

The program featured several guest speakers including Sandra Whiting a local storyteller, Patricia Harewood a legal officer at the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and performances from Kofi Sankofa, Ngoma Assemble, and a steel pan drummer Roy Mc Rae.  Members learned about Africa’s contributions to civilization.

Multiple vendors were able to showcase their products, which included health and wellness products, t-shirts, Caribana costumes and props, dolls, and more. One of our members, Fouzia Amjad also allowed guests to participate in several arts and craft projects.

This year, we are expanding our Black History Month celebrations to Hamilton and Ottawa! Throughout the month, we will be featuring outstanding black members who have contributed to their communities and their workplaces. Visit our website to read all about your fellow members!
