As you have likely heard, Ontario now has two confirmed cases of the coronavirus and one presumptive case. Recently, we were in communication with officials at the Ministry of Health to discuss the developing cases.

SEIU Healthcare is deeply saddened by the news of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 that crashed near Tehran. We stand in solidarity with the families and friends of the victims of this tragic event.

Today, ten Ontario unions representing more than 250,000 thousand affected broader public sector employees, announced their intention to launch a coordinated Charter challenge against Bill 124. As well, the Ontario Labour movement, with the Power of Many, will be initiating an aggressive campaign to repeal Bill 124.

SEIU Healthcare proudly endorsed Patty Coates as the first woman president of the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), who was just elected to this role today during the OFL 2019 Power of Many Convention. SEIU Healthcare also congratulates Ahmad Gaied, who was acclaimed as the OFL Secretary-Treasurer, and Janice Folk-Dawson, the newly elected OFL Executive Vice-President.

SEIU Healthcare, along with the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL), stands in solidarity with the more than 55,000 members of CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU) who are taking legal job action and have given the five days required notice of moving to a walkout on October 7, 2019.
