SEIU Healthcare and researchers at Women’s College Research Institute, conducted a survey of over 8,700 frontline healthcare workers and report that 4 out of 5 are potentially willing to take COVID-19 vaccines if personal financial barriers are eliminated.
SEIU Healthcare was outraged, to learn from media reports that the provincial government is obstructing the work of Ontario’s Long-Term Care Commission. This is why our union instead called for a public inquiry, not a commission, so that families could learn the chain of failed decisions that led to so many avoidable deaths.
Today marks the first day of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Especially during a pandemic, where mental and physical abuse has increased against women, girls, LGBTQ2+, and gender diverse individuals. It’s also harder for these individuals to access the organizations and services they need.
I’m writing to urge you to act more boldly in the face of the growing risks Ontario’s hospital workers are facing on the frontlines of a dangerous, global pandemic. Simply put, this is no time for complacency. Case loads are on the rise. Hospitals are filling up. Our system requires urgent attention, now.
